ADEANS IV MEETING - 2022

Date 18 - 23 September 2022

Registration period is over !!!

INTRODUCTION

This is the fourth edition in the successful series of ADEANS conferences that have been running since 2016, with the last one organized in December 2020. The main idea of the conferences came from the realization that South Africa has an international level of expertise in techniques of solving differential equations and their applications to a selected range of disciplines such as cosmology and general relativity, basic epidemiology, engineering and physics, and financial mathematics. However there is a lack of a broader theoretical and analytical background of many aspects of applied mathematics and the exchange of ideas between diverse fields. This series of conferences was thus aimed at bringing together the practical and theoretical communities working on differential equations and modelling to provide a platform to communicate and form stronger collaborative networks. In particular, we aim to present a broad range of applications of differential equations to areas such as dynamics on networks, fragmentation-coagulation models, population models, theoretical physics and engineering, and of advanced methods of their analysis such as self-similarity and symmetry analyses, qualitative and geometric methods, perturbation theory, or nonstandard numerical methods. The conference encompasses a number of focus areas of the Centre of Excellence – MaSS such as Symmetries, Mechanics and Applications, Functional Analysis and Operator Theory, Mathematics in Industry, Mathematical Physics, Modelling and Analysis in Life Sciences and Numerical and Applied Mathematics.

GOALS OF THE CONFERENCE

The conference is aimed at postgraduate students and young researchers. We plan some short courses of lectures given by researchers from South Africa and abroad, who will provide surveys of selected topics from the foundations to the cutting edge results. These will allow the students and emerging researchers to learn about new tools and perspectives in the field. These lectures will be complemented by a number of invited lectures and contributed talks.

MAIN TOPICS

Finite and infinite dimensional dynamical systems
Spectral theory of operators
Analytic methods in ordinary and partial differential equations
Symmetry analysis of differential equations
Applications to Physical and Life Sciences, Economy, Social Sciences

APPLICATION

Application is open to all mathematicians and graduate students from South Africa and abroad. The conference is planned for 70 participants. On acceptance of the application, you will be sent an invoice indicating the costs of attendance. Limited funds are available to cover only accommodation costs for postgraduate students from South Africa. We encourage participants to secure their own funding for travel and subsistence from their home institution.

This meeting is jointly hosted by the Astrophysics Research Centre, School of Mathematics, Statistics and Computer Sciences, University of KwaZulu-Natal, Durban, University of Pretoria, and the Centre of Excellence in Mathematical and Statistical Sciences (CoE-MaSS). The venue for the meeting is PREMIER RESORT CUTTY SARK, SCOTTSBURG, KZN
